Pre-Thanksgiving Posts

I am always thankful for what I have, but this year I’m especially thankful for the upcoming Thanksgiving.

You see, two weeks ago my husband experienced a mini stroke. Thankfully his co-workers noticed something was wrong and got him to the hospital. We found out that his carotid arteries are 100% blocked in the front of his neck. They will not do surgery because they are afraid that it’s highly possible that he could have a major stroke. What they are doing is managing his blood pressure and he is taking medication to keep his arteries clear and trying very hard to quit smoking. We are taking this one day at a time, so at times my blog has been sporadic to say the least. I’m sorry about that. And then on my home from the hospital that night I hit a deer, or should I say he hit me because I didn’t see him coming.

So I had two major events in one day, more than enough for a person to handle. Thankfully, the car wasn’t totaled. So now a week and a half later, hubby is back to work. He’s stopped smoking and carefully monitoring his blood pressure. My car is now fixed and am busy at work during the upcoming Deer Hunting and Thanksgiving Day season. I am trying my best to take care of my husband, work and get ads done, so thank you for being so patient with me. I have a couple more to get out, which will be out by tomorrow night. Thank you again for taking the time to read my blog. I truly appreciate being able to share what I’ve learned. For those of you that deer hunt, good luck and be safe. Otherwise, have a good night all.

Mother Nature

What a weekend!!! First rain, than sleet, then wet heavy snow. And this went on all day. I can handle the 8 to 9″ of snow, but when it is icy too, that’s just way to much. Thanks Mother Nature. I know last year’s temp was almost 80 degree’s but really……. what a complete turnaround in the weather department. Yes, I know it’s March but wow is all I can say… Monday came, and again the same. I guess I’m just venting, but then again so is everyone else who is waiting for the thaw and Spring.

In other news, I am training in a new department for work all week. Working in the Deli. Such a change of pace from working on the floor. No, it’s not a permanent position. I will be one of two back-up supervisors who will fill in when they are short-staffed. I actually enjoy doing this, but starting yesterday not so much. I tripped and fell. Needless, to say when I got home my whole body hurt. Landed on the right side of my body, so everything from my hip all the way to my neck is hurting. So that is why I didn’t get any ads posted yesterday. I’m sorry about that but my best friend yesterday was ice and heat. Still stiff and sore today but gotta get these sales done.

So thank’s for being patient and hope you all have a great day and week….

Blueberry/Strawberry Delight Smoothie

The refrigerator is getting bare, so what can I make a smoothie with? I searched through my freezer and found frozen blueberries and strawberries and some over-ripe bananas. So hence, I decided to mix together this fruity concoction. .

1 cup vanilla yogurt
1 cup blueberry juice
2 ripe banana’s (needed to use up)
1 cup frozen blueberries
1/2 cup frozen strawberries

Put in blender or Smoothie machine and mix. Pretty good. Fresh, Tasty, Tangy, Crisp taste. Delicious!!! It has a little thicker consistency. I would definitely make again.

Baby lambs

Here is the newest addition born in the barn. (2nd picture) A little lamb about an hour ago. Just coming inside now after watching a little bit and then watering and giving mama a little feed and hay. Just had to make sure she was sucking.

The top picture is the one that was born yesterday. It sure it keeping me busy today. Regular chores kind of done, keeping the fire nice and toasty, laundry, trying to do ads, lambing, and trying to make beef stew before I go to work. Hmmmm. It looks like the ads will be posted after I get home from work.

Work is never done for the weary.

Talk with you later. Maybe we’ll even have more lambs by then.

Banana/Orange/Pineapple Smoothie

I decided this morning I wanted a fruit smoothie. What’s in the refrigerator. Extra pineapple, orange juice, have some bananas. Ok, I decided to use those to make a smoothie. Pretty good.

Banana/Orange Smoothie

1 banana
1 c. orange juice
6-8 ice cubes
1 c. pineapple chunks
1/2 c. vanilla yogurt
Blend and eat.

This was delicious. A fruity, tasty drink. I wasn’t sure on the vanilla yogurt, but it is very good. You can add what you want.

Life On The Farm

What a Frigid morning. Below zero wind chills. Time to get dressed in my layers of clothing for the trek out to the barn. Four layers in all. Gosh it’s hard to move. But move I must.

My first step outside, whew. The cold takes your breath away. Instant tears coming down my face. First, start the car and make sure it starts. I am letting that run while I’m now off to the barn. Head down, keeping the wind out of my eyes. I can handle the cold, but the wind chill is terrible.

The ewe’s have decided it is time to lamb. So while my husband is working, it is my job to keep an eye on the sheep. All look good. Nothing tells me that it’s time to lamb yet. In all we have three baby lambs. Two were born last week, and then yesterday I had to go help my husband with another one ready to lamb.

Yesterday, it wasn’t as easy. We had a ewe that was having a problem birthing. She already had one but there was still at least one waiting to come into the world. It was time to help her along. We couldn’t tell if there was more than one inside or not as my husband kept feeling three legs. So he was trying to get them straightened out so that she could give birth. If there is more than one, sometimes they will get tangled up as they are both trying to get out. After 30 minutes, we finally got the lamb pulled out. Unfortunately, the lamb was dead. He was not fully developed so he had been dead for months. I hate that when that happens. It’s always nice to see an easy birth and the great joy of watching the little lambs come into the world.

While we waited to see if there was another lamb inside, it was now to time to get momma up and get the little lamb that made it, to suck. Mission accomplished. That little lamb (a boy) was hungry. Mom was strong for her baby and stood there while he ate. We treated her with penicillin and gave her some grain and water. After the baby lamb was finished eating, momma laid down to rest and she ate a little bit. No more lambs for momma.

Momma and baby are doing well today. Time to come in for a warm cup of coffee and to warm up myself and spend some time doing my ads, as it has been a busy weekend with work and then helping along with the birthing. I will be spending the day in and outside checking on the lambs and waiting to see if there are any more births. As soon as I have time I will share some pictures of our newest babies.

Have a wonderful Monday and stay warm….
